Man Attacks Woman With Knife, Tire Iron In Westlake

Police said the woman was seen trying to jump out of a moving car on I-90.

WESTLAKE, OH — After an incident in Westlake, a Cleveland man has been accused of attacking a woman and trying to hold her against her will.

On Aug. 25, callers reported seeing a woman trying to jump from an open car door on I-90. The caller said a man was pulling the woman back into the car before she could leap out.

Police located the described car as it pulled into the parking lot of the Double Tree Hotel on Crocker Road. Officers saw two people, a man and a woman, getting out of the car.

The woman looked as if she had been in a fight, police said. The man ignored police and tried to hide behind parked cars. Officers had to track the man down and physically restrain him, a department spokesperson said.

Once the man was restrained, police saw that he was sweating profusely, his pupils were constricted and he was foaming at the mouth. The man was also threatening to kill the officers, the spokesperson said.

Fearing an overdose, police called an ambulance to the hotel parking lot and medical officials care for the man. He was taken to St. John Medical Center for treatment.

The woman then told police the man had used drugs and was trying to cut her with a knife and hit her with a tire iron. Luckily, the woman had suffered only minor injuries, police said.

The man was identified as a 36-year-old Cleveland resident. He is wanted by Cleveland, Brooklyn and Strongsville police departments for prior offenses like domestic violence and shoplifting. Westlake police said the man will be charged with domestic violence, resisting arrest, unlawful restraint and menacing. He was arraigned in court last week.
