Ohio Man Accused Of Intentionally Hitting Cop Car In Westlake
Police said the man rammed his Chevy Impala into a police cruiser in an attempt to escape capture.
WESTLAKE, OH — Police have accused a man of attacking officers and then running away during an incident at Crocker Park on July 19.
Demetrius Bennett, 28, from Brooklyn, Ohio, has been accused of felonious assault. A Westlake police spokesperson said additional charges are expected to be filed against Bennett. Bond was set at $500,000.
According to police, Crocker Park security contacted officers after a shoplifting incident on Friday night. When officers arrived, one of the suspects had gotten into a Chevy Impala and tried to leave the scene.

The Impala was cornered in a dead end alley, police said, and the driver tried to ram his way out, hitting a police cruiser multiple times. The suspect then ran into a Dick's Sporting Goods where he was later caught by police.
On Tuesday morning, police announced that Bennett was their suspect in the case.
