Police Identify Woman Hit By Truck On Detroit Road

On Wednesday, a 72-year-old woman was struck by a Spectrum truck and killed. On Thursday, police released her identity.

WESTLAKE, OH — Police have identified a 72-year-old woman that was hit and killed by a Spectrum Cable truck while walking at a Detroit Road intersection.

The woman is Rita Louise Vargo, from Oakland, California. She was in town visiting relatives, police said.

At 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police and firefighters rushed to the intersection of Detroit and Hamlet Lane after a serious car accident. When they arrived they found Good Samaritans trying to save a 72-year-old woman.

Officers and firefighters joined in, trying life saving measures to help Vargo. Unfortunately, she passed away from her injuries.

Police said a Spectrum Cable truck struck Vargo. The driver and the cable company are working with police on the investigation.

Detroit Road was closed for 3.5 hours on Wednesday while police investigated what happened.
