Poll: Do You Vote?

Voter turnout is never 100 percent. Why do you, or don't you, vote?

The yard signs are out, the flyers are on doorknobs and absentee ballots are in the mail. It's election season, but how many Westlake residents are voting?

In the November 2008 general election, voter turnout across Cuyahoga County averaged at 61 percent including ballots cast at the polling locations, absentee ballots and early votes. In 2009, countywide turnout was 39 percent and it was 44 percent in 2010.

As of Nov. 4, 2008, there were 27,901 voters registered in the city, which has a population of 32,729 according to the 2010 U.S. Census. That means 76 percent of the city was eligible to vote, but turnout is almost never that high. In neighboring cities like North Olmsted, Bay Village and Rocky River, turnout averages at about 55 percent.
