Suspected Car Thieves Crash In Avon

AVON, OH — Four people were arrested last Sunday after they were seen smashing out the window of a car parked in Westlake and then speeding off in a stolen car. The group eventually crashed their vehicle and were apprehended by Avon and Avon Lake officers.

Callers reported seeing something suspicious in the parking lot of a medical building in Westlake at about 1:10 a.m. on June 3. The callers said they saw a man jump out of a parked car at the corner of Detroit and Clague roads. The suspect then walked over to a car, broke out the window, and then jumped back into a Kia Soul.

The caller said there appeared to be other people in the car. The Soul was seen driving north on Clague after the incident.

Police investigated the car and found the Kia had been entered as stolen out of Cleveland. Bay Village officers spotted the vehicle and pursued it.

During the car chase, Avon and Avon Lake officers also began pursuing the Kia. After a short pursuit, the Soul crashed in the area of Lake and Jaycox roads.

Four men got out of the car and tried to run off. They were quickly caught by police. Two juveniles and two adult men, all from Cleveland, were arrested. Westlake Police are charging the suspects with criminal damaging, as well as felony theft, police said.
