Suspected Heroin Found During Traffic Stop In Westlake

Police said they found the suspected narcotics when they stopped a GMC Yukon on I-90 for a traffic violation.

WESTLAKE, OH — Suspected heroin was found during a traffic stop in Westlake, police said. The driver has been arrested and charged with possession of heroin.

The traffic stop was made Feb. 2 on I-90, near Columbia Road. An officer saw a GMC Yukon commit a violation and pulled it over.

The driver, a 35-year-old from Cleveland, had a suspended license and warrants for his arrest through Lakewood and Middleburg Heights police departments.

Officers took the man into custody, based on the warrants. While arresting the man, he admitted that he had been driving back from Elyria, where he bought what he thought was heroin, police said.

A plastic bag of the suspected drug was found in the Yukon, along with a digital scale and a marijuana grinder.

The man is being charged with both possession of heroin and possession of criminal tools, police said.
