Suspected Westlake Bank Robber Identified

The Key Bank on Columbia Road was robbed on Nov. 23. The suspected robber is now being held by police.

WESTLAKE, OH — Andrew Dillingham is the man suspected of robbing a Key Bank in Westlake in late November, police announced. Dillingham is currently in the custody of the Sandusky County Sheriff's office and Westlake police have placed a detainer on him.

The robbery happened at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 23. A man dressed in dark winter clothing walked into the bank, at 1411 Columbia Road, and handed a demand note to a teller. The note said the man had a gun and wanted cash.

The teller handed over the money and the man left the bank. No one was hurt during the robbery.

Later that night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol found a man sleeping in a car at a rest stop in Milan, a village south of Sandusky. The car was listed as stolen out of Vermont, police said.

The driver was Dillingham, a 36-year-old from Cheaster, Vermont. Seeing his resemblance to the Westlake bank robber, troopers took him into custody, police said.

Evidence was collected from the scene and a warrant was issued for the arrest of Dillingham.

According to the Bennington Banner, Dillingham is also wanted for robbing a bank in Bellows Falls, Vermont. When he has settled his charges in Ohio, he will face extradition to that state.
