Two Drivers Hit Buildings, Flee the Scene: Westlake Police

One man collided with the Bay Landings apartment complex. The other hit a part of a Center Ridge Road business.

WESTLAKE, OH - It was open season for drivers hunting buildings in Westlake. Two different drivers smashed into an apartment complex and an office building.

Hit Skip, Oct. 17 - A 32-year-old Westlake man was cited for Hit Skip after he hit a building in the Bay Landings condo complex two days earlier.

Then, the railing to the stoop of a Center Ridge Road office building was hit by the operator of a dark-colored 4-door around 2:49AM. CCTV showed him back into it, get out and scrutinize the damage, and then drive off. The recording’s resolution is not sharp enough to ID the driver or license plate.

Petty Theft, Oct. 18 - A 52-year-old Mentor man was detained by the staff of a Detroit Road store on Oct. 18. He had stolen property worth $90. He had been suspected of stealing from the store previously and those suspicious were well-founded. In his van $97 worth of additional merchandise was located He was arrested for Petty Theft, RSP, and Possession of Criminal Tools and is banned from the store.

Possession, Oct. 19 - A 19-year-old North Royalton man driving on Canterbury Road flagged down a passing police cruiser on Oct. 19 to ask directions “to the country." The smell of marijuana from the man’s car piqued the officer’s interest and resulted in a Possession of Marijuana citation. Two other adults in the car were not cited. The mom of a 17-year-old female passenger was notified of the stop.

Fraud, Oct. 19 - Pizza worth $108 was delivered to a Clemens Road motel by a Center Ridge Rd. pizzeria on Oct. 19. The caller used a credit card which turned out to have been stolen. The pizza eaters had already checked out when Westlake Police was contacted the next day.

OVI, Oct. 21 - A 56-year-old North Ridgeville man with six prior OVI convictions is trying for lucky number seven after his Oct. 21 arrest. The latest caper came on Center Ridge Rd., where he drove straight through a right turn only lane. He refused to take a breath test.

Theft, Oct. 21 - A Hunters Pt. Ln. woman heard from her bank about a questionable Oct. 21 debit card purchase. She found out that 12 purchases totaling $2153 had been made at three websites.
