Two Westlake Students Finalists For $20,000 Scholarship

Two seniors have are in consideration to receive large scholarships through Coca-Cola.

WESTLAKE, OH — Two Westlake High School students are regional finalists in the Coca-Cola National Scholarship contest. Seniors Norah Wilson and Jack Wu are two of the 250 regional finalists competing for $20,000 scholarships.

Wilson and Wu survived the semifinals, where 1,936 students were whittled down to 250. Only 150 students will be named Coca-Cola Scholars and receive a $20,000 scholarship. Winners will be announced in March.

Scholarships are given to students that excel academically and are also involved in their schools. Recipients should be considered leaders and be service-oriented.

Norah has been accepted to John Hopkins University and plans to study pre-med. At Westlake High she is senior class president, was junior class president, Gay Straight Alliance treasurer, French Club president and Art Club president. She also is a volunteer for National Honor Society, UH St. John Medical Center, Westlake Porter Public Library and Laura’s Home Women’s Crisis Center through The City Mission.

Jack intends to pursue a degree in engineering, either electrical or chemical, saying he enjoys opportunities for problem-solving that come with engineering. At Westlake High he is involved with Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Academic Challenge, Science Olympiad, and serves as vice president of the Asian American Association. He volunteers at UH St. John Medical Center and at National Chemistry Week, where he teaches chemistry to children at libraries through the American Chemical Society to promote interest in chemistry.
