Weapons Found During 2 Westlake Traffic Stops
One suspect was barred from having a handgun because he was previously convicted of drug trafficking, police said.
WESTLAKE, OH — Two men were taken into custody by police last week for carrying concealed weapons without a permit. Both men were from Lorain.
On March 31, at 11 a.m., officers stopped a car on I-90 near Crocker Road for a visible equipment violation. The car smelled of marijuana, police said. The driver, a 23-year-old, told police he knew the car would be searched. The driver admitted to carrying a handgun without a permit.
Police found a semi-automatic handgun, ammunition, and marijuana inside the car. The man was taken into custody and has been charged with felony carrying a concealed weapon.

A few days later, on April 3, police pulled a car over for speeding on I-90, near Detroit Road. The driver had a suspended license and a warrant for his arrest in North Olmsted.
Police found a loaded handgun in the man's car. The vehicle was impounded.

The 24-year-old driver was arrested. He has been charged with driving under suspension and carrying a concealed weapon. He also faces charges of having a weapon under disability, because he was previously convicted of trafficking in drugs and carrying a weapon.
