Westlake High School Latin Club Brings Home The Awards

The club returned from the Ohio Junior Classical League Conference in Columbus with a ton of hardware.

WESTLAKE, OH - There's a lot to celebrate with the Westlake High School Latin Club. The organization brought a ton of awards home from the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL) Conference in Columbus.

The school said these were the myriad accomplishments the students brought home with them:

  • Senior Kelly Thaxton completed her service for the past two years as OJCL at the state level.
  • Junior Carolyn Bedell earned a second place for her ink drawing “Hades and Persephone,” and sixth place for her sculpture “The Temple of Vesta.”
  • Freshman Clayton Boor took home fourth place in Level 1 Derivatives and Illustrated Quotes, and eighth place for a mosaic of Mt. Olympus.
  • Senior Andrew Bovenzi took third place for Roman Literature, and fifth place in Roman History and Dramatic Interpretation.
  • Sophomore Amber Dinchman earned a Superior medal for a painted banner.
  • Freshman Richard Garber earned first place in Latin Recitation, eighth place in Level One Derivatives, ninth place in Mythology, fourth place in Reading Comprehension, third place in Romanic History, seventh place in English Oratory, and eighth place overall in Creative Arts.
  • Sophomore Rebekah Hardy took second place in Sight Reading Level 2.
  • Junior Mreedul Koirala took seventh place for sight reading.
  • Junior Connor Mahon took home a participant ribbon.
  • Junior Katherine Mazzella took ninth place for her pencil drawing “Flying Light” and sixth place for computer enhanced photography “Left Behind.”
  • Junior Sean Padden won ninth place for a sculpture “Temple of Caesar.”
  • Junior Debbie Parchen earned first place for her pencil drawing “The Judgement of Aphrodite.”
  • Sophomore Matthew Wallenhorst won fifth place for his monologue.
  • Senior John Wittenberg won second place for service publication.·
  • Junior Jack Wrightsman won second place for reading comprehension.
