Westlake High School Student Named to All-State Jazz Band

Jeremy McCabe is the only drummer to be selected for the band.

WESTLAKE, OH - Westlake High School senior Jeremy McCabe has been selected to perform in the All-State Jazz Band at the Ohio Music Educators Conference in Cleveland the week of Feb. 1-4, 2017.

Jeremy submitted his audition this spring and was selected as the only drummer in the band. Students from all over Ohio submitted audition recordings for this prestigious honor.

According to the Ohio Music Education Association website, the requirements for auditions were stringent. Students had to perform β€œDonna Lee”, β€œYardbird Suite” and β€œMy Little Suede Shoes” from Charlie Parker (vol. 6); ”Runnin’ and Gunnin’”,β€œAn April Recall” and β€œI Remember Grant” from Good Time! (vol. 114).

Drummers had to:

  • With the play-along (use CD #4 – left channel), play two choruses of β€œRunnin’ and Gunnin"
  • With the play-along (use CD #4 – left channel), play two choruses of β€œI Remember Grant”
  • With the play-along (use CD #4 – left channel), play two choruses of β€œAn April Recall”, medium version, track 9
  • Include a recording of you performing a swing chart with your home jazz ensemble. This swing chart must incorporate at least a brief drum solo (4 or more measures).
