Westlake High School Students Competing in Model Home Contest for Scholarship

The Great Big Home & Garden Show Annual Student Model Home Design Contest will award a $1,000 scholarship to the grand prize winner.

WESTLAKE, OH - Westlake High School is participating in the 20th Annual The Great Big Home & Garden Show Annual Student Model Home Design Contest. The contest will be judged at the Cuyahoga Valley Career Center in Brecksville.

The contest challenges students to design a functional home. This year's theme for the houses was The Great Urban Reuse House. Basically, students were told to design a 2,200 sq. ft. house for a Millennial or Empty Nester couple. The home should be made of an existing structure and take advantage of nearby amenities.

Using those specifications, students then create a floor plan and elevation drawings. They also create scale model homes to demonstrate their designs.
