Westlake High Student Earns Perfect Score on AP Calculus Test; 1 of 11 to Achieve Perfection Worldwide

Junior Ryan Karpuszka knocked the test out of the park.

WESTLAKE, OH - Westlake High School junior Ryan Karpuszka earned one of only 11 perfect scores in the world on the AP Calculus BC exam.

Ryan tested out of AP Calculus AB and went into AP Calculus BC. Only .009 percent of students who took the exam earned a perfect score. He says math has always been a strength of his and he was well prepared for the exam through his previous math courses at WHS.

Ryan plays the trumpet in marching band and the cello in orchestra. He is a member of the WHS Science Olympiad team, the Academic Challenge team and the Model UN team.

He placed eighth in the state on the Ohio County of Teachers of Mathematics State Math Competition, ranked in the top 1 percentile in the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) 10 National Math Competition, and placed in the top 5 percentile on the AMC 12 National Math Competition.

While unsure of a career goal, Ryan intends to major in a STEM filed, leaning toward computer science.
