WHS Students Open Demon Depot

The school supply and school spirit store raises money and teaches life skills.

Rachel Kane’s multiple disabilities unit at Westlake High School recently opened The Demon Depot, a classroom store to raise money for the program and teach students a life skill.

The store opened Jan. 18 as a school supply and spirit store. Students sell a variety of school supplies, including folders, notebooks, binders, index cards, USB drives, pens and pencils, as well as spirit items, including Demon lanyards and tattoos.

“My students are responsible for all aspects of running the store, including checking inventory, stocking shelves, waiting on customers, working the cash register and keeping the area clean,” Kane said. “The store provides an opportunity for my students to generalize their skills in a more realistic setting and to gain vocational training while in the high school environment.”

Proceeds from store sales will be used for ongoing expenses. Profits also will be used to pay for community outings, to purchase classroom technology and for donations to the school and community.

The Demon Depot is open during most school hours.
