Westlake Police Confiscate Gun During Traffic Stop

Police said a woman failed to reveal that she had a loaded gun in her car during a traffic stop on I-90.

WESTLAKE, OH — Police stopped a car on I-90 for a traffic violation and then found evidence of drug use in the car, according to reports. A 35-year-old Cleveland woman was eventually taken into custody for traffic violations, mishandling a firearm and other offenses.

The woman's car was stopped at 10 a.m. on Jan. 20, a Westlake police spokesperson said. Officers saw equipment problems with the woman's car and noted several traffic violations.

Police stopped the car on I-90. After investigating, an officer found the woman had a valid concealed carry permit, but did not tell the officer about her loaded gun (as required by law), police said.

The gun was confiscated during the investigation.

The woman was then taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor improper handling of a firearm, driving with an expired license, traffic violations and possession of a government benefits card belonging to another person.

Police did not say if the woman was charged with any narcotics offenses.
