Westlake Student To Compete In Mathematics Olympiad

Ryan Karpuszka, a junior at Westlake High School, had the ninth highest score in the state of Ohio.

WESTLAKE, OH - The Westlake School District's run of math competition success may continue in April. A member of the high school's Math Club will be competing at the Ohio High School Mathematics Invitational Olympiad on April 1 at Capital University in Columbus.

The individual earned his ticket to the Olympiad during the 2017 Ohio Council of Teachers of Mathematics (OCTM) State Tournament held in February at Lorain High School. The Westlake High School Math Club took second place at the tournament.

Several students on the team landed on the site's Top 20 list. Juniors Ryan Karpuszka, Cory DuBois, Donovan DuBois and sophomore Mihir Shetty also made the Top 20. Karpuszka's score ranks ninth in Ohio and earned him an invite to the Ohio High School Mathematics Olympiad.
