Westlake Students Take 4th In State Chemist Challenge

WESTLAKE, OH — The Ohio You Be The Chemist Challenge was held over the weekend in the Great Lakes Science Center. Westlake's Yikun Zhou took fourth in the competition.
Zhou, an eighth-grade student at Lee Burneson Middle School, took second place in a local chemist challenge to qualify for the state competition. Zhou's fellow student, Alicia Ge, took first place at the local challenge but was unable to compete at the state challenge on April 27.
During the You Be The Chemist Challenge, students were asked chemistry and general science questions during the competition. Only first place state finishers move on to the National Challenge in Washington, D.C.

The You Be The Chemist Challenge is open to students in grades 5-8. Students compete as individuals, answering multiple-choice questions to advance through a series of competition levels.
The competition starts at the school level and concludes on the national stage. During June's National Challenge, state champions from across the nation will be able to compete for college scholarships.
