Whiz Kid: Jason Labroo

From basketball to report cards, this Whiz Kid is a true MVP.

Westlake kids do amazing things every day, and each week at Westlake Patch, we're going to be featuring child, teenager, club or team that really shines.

Accomplishments: 

Jason in the way of basketball in both his junior and senior years, being named team captain and MVP as well as receiving several awards including the Coaches Award and First Place Bank Student Athlete Award. He has also been recognized for his talents on the school baseball team.

Academically, Jason is a member of the National Honor Society and maintains a spot on the high honor roll because of his excellent grades.

Jason plans to attend The Ohio State University, but he hasn't yet decided which degree program he will pursuing. 

"I've been accepted into their law, politics and society scholars programs," he said. 

Keys to Awesomeness: 

Jason said he has a few tips for struggling students.

"My advice would be that they should make sure they complete all their assignments, attend class and study," he said. "Prioritize your time and keep track of all of the things you have to do." 

Jason added that it is sometimes necessary to give up certain things for a successful future. 

"Sometimes you have to sacrifice something fun in order to get the work done," he said. 

Labroo fuels his study sessions with heaping helpings of his favorite food: green bean casserole. Once that's gone, you'll catch him heading to his most loved restaurant: . He also loves to jam out to tunes by rapper Jay-Z

Jason said he looks up to basketball legend Michael Jordan. 

"Michael Jordan is one of my favorite role models because he worked hard and earned everything he achieved," he said. "He's the greatest player of all time." 

The Million Dollar Question: 

If Jason were given a million dollars to donate to a cause or charity of his choice, he said he'd quickly donate to to diabetes research.

"My grandfather had diabetes, had to go through dialysis, and passed away for its [diabetes'] complications. His father also died from it," he said. 

"I want to make sure that my father and family don't have to go through the same."
