1. Youngstown Innovation Hub calls for white papers for tech development (aerospacemanufacturinganddesign.com) — Researchers, startups, and manufacturers in the Youngstown area can now compete for a share of $300,000 in awards from the Youngstown Innovation Hub for Aerospace & Defense. The call for white papers targets projects done in Northeast Ohio, especially the Lake to River counties, that can turn promising aerospace and defense technologies into market-ready products and strengthen the regional industrial ecosystem.
2. Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport begins $22 million runway and lighting overhaul (mahoningmatters.com) — A major $22 million overhaul is starting at Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport, upgrading both runways, drainage, and airfield lighting to improve safety and expand flight capabilities. Backed partly by a JobsOhio grant, the project will also support training at the adjacent Youngstown Air Reserve Station and is expected to strengthen jobs, military readiness, and long-term economic growth across the Mahoning Valley.
3. A look ahead: October's weather outlook (wkbn.com) — Youngstown residents can expect October to start warmer but quickly turn cooler, with higher odds of rain and below-normal temperatures in the first week. As the month goes on, the pattern should flip to drier-than-normal conditions, while temperatures hover near typical fall norms, helping you plan for outdoor chores, fall festivals, and the season's first frosty nights.
4. Coyotes drop MVFC opener at Youngstown State (keloland.com) — Youngstown State football gave home fans plenty to cheer about, topping South Dakota 47-28 in a high-scoring Missouri Valley Football Conference opener at Stambaugh Stadium. The Penguins leaned on a strong ground game and timely defense to pull away in the second half, while South Dakota's offense flashed with four touchdowns but couldn't keep pace.
5. Efforts to oust Ciccone stall (vindy.com) — In Youngstown, efforts to remove Mahoning County Clerk of Courts Michael Ciccone have stalled, leaving residents with few options despite bipartisan frustration over unpaid utility bills, financial mismanagement, and offensive behavior allegations. Party leaders failed to gather enough petition signatures, and legal avenues now hinge on whether the county prosecutor or state attorney general will pursue a rare quo warranto action to challenge his tenure.
