1. Board of elections to finally get new home (vindy.com) — Mahoning County's Board of Elections is set to leave aging Oakhill Renaissance Place for the former Williamson Elementary School on Youngstown's South Side, with the Western Reserve Port Authority buying and renovating the building. Officials say the new site will be safer for voting equipment, offer more parking and better access, and should be ready by the November 2027 election.
2. Planned Youngstown Orthopaedic Sale Violates Agreement, Lawsuit Says (businessjournaldaily.com) — A major legal fight is unfolding in Youngstown as the Surgery Center at Southwoods sues two shareholder physicians over their plan to sell Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates' assets to the Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Southwoods argues the sale would violate noncompete-style obligations and harm its position in the local medical market, and it's asking a Mahoning County judge to temporarily block the deal.
3. Whores. Announce December 2026 Headlining Tour (themosh.net) — Noise-rock band Whores. is bringing its December headlining tour to Youngstown, with a stop at Westside Bowl on December 9. The run hits several Midwest and Northeast cities, including Chicago, Ferndale, Brattleboro and Brooklyn, plus a still-secret December 11 date, giving local heavy-music fans a rare chance to catch the band close to home.
4. Frost possible next week: When do we typically get our first frost or freeze? (wkbn.com) — Youngstown is entering the typical window for its first frost, with average timing around October 1 and a chance for frost early next week as nights dip into the upper 30s. 5. Francisco, Cullen lead Force over Phantoms (inforum.com) — Youngstown hockey fans saw the Phantoms fall 6-4 to the Fargo Force at Covelli Centre, despite a late push that included a third-period power-play goal. The teams face off again Saturday evening in Youngstown, giving locals another chance to see the Phantoms respond on home ice.
