1. What to expect for National Pierogi Day celebration at Kravitz Deli Youngstown (mahoningmatters.com) — National Pierogi Day in Youngstown is being marked Oct. 8 at Kravitz Deli on Belmont Avenue, where you can enjoy classic and specialty pierogi from morning through evening. Polish Youngstown will add pączki, live polka music, birthday cake, a happy hour with Polish drinks, and themed merchandise, turning the deli into a full Polish-style celebration.
2. Autism Society Accepting Applications for Mini-Grants (businessjournaldaily.com) — Families in Youngstown and surrounding counties can now apply for the Autism Society of Mahoning Valley's final round of Mike Hull Memorial Holiday Mini-Grants, open through Oct. 15. The program helps cover sensory, educational, recreational and other autism-related needs, while the group also seeks a new sponsor to keep the tradition going beyond this year.
3. Trump to return to the Valley next week (wytv.com) — President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a midterm rally at Youngstown's Covelli Centre on Monday, Oct. 12, with doors opening at 2:30 p.m. Local Republicans say the visit supports his agenda and Ohio allies, and tickets are limited to four per signup for those who want to attend.
4. Landlord granted settlement in dispute with company that left Youngstown facility (wkbn.com) — A Mahoning County judge has awarded landlord JPS Ventures $200,000 plus costs and interest after Zoetic Global left its downtown Youngstown refrigerant plant and allegedly broke a five-year lease. The company, which once promised dozens of local jobs, also faces a separate $65,000 judgment to an investor, underscoring ongoing fallout from the abandoned Youngstown facility.
5. Landlords want more protections in Schwebel liquidation (wkbn.com) — Landlords for Schwebel Baking properties in Youngstown are backing a liquidation sale but have asked a federal judge for stronger protections on rent, utilities, insurance and cleanup. With 370 local jobs already gone, they want assurances on how sale proceeds will be used before the Oct. 13 hearing that could shape the company's final chapter.
