Youngstown board moves $1M in ARP funding to residential facade program (vindy.com) — Youngstown's Board of Control has shifted $1 million in American Rescue Plan funds from the landlord loan program into the popular Residential Facade Program, expanding help for homeowners making exterior repairs and code upgrades. City officials also approved change orders for downtown street and transit projects near YSU and advanced property acquisitions for a $170 million wastewater facility that will reshape infrastructure near Gibson Street.
   

2. Ursuline Teacher Recognized as Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan (businessjournaldaily.com) — A Youngstown Ursuline High School teacher and Somos Youngstown founder has been named a Distinguished Hispanic Ohioan, making her the only honoree from the city this year. Her work celebrating Hispanic contributions in the Mahoning Valley and translating for the Diocese of Youngstown earned statewide recognition that shines a positive spotlight on local culture and education.
   

3. Mill Creek opens new children's garden at Fellows (wkbn.com) — Families in Youngstown now have a new place for kids to explore nature with the opening of the Anthony J. Fox Family Foundation Children's Garden at Fellows Riverside Gardens. The fully donor-funded space features themed garden areas, play zones, and learning spots, and is open daily from sunrise to sunset off McKinley Avenue near Mahoning Avenue.
   

4. Flying High Announces Relocation of Programs, Offices (businessjournaldaily.com) — Flying High Inc., a Youngstown-based nonprofit, is moving its downtown offices and several treatment and training programs from West Federal Street to the Mahoning County Campus of Care in Mineral Ridge. The shift centralizes workforce and recovery services for Mahoning County residents while the Mahoning Welcome Center has already opened at the group's new North Side campus on Kensington Avenue.
   

5. Ohio Attorney General candidates to debate at Youngstown State University (mahoningmatters.com) — Youngstown residents will host a key statewide moment when Ohio attorney general candidates Keith Faber and John Kulewicz debate at Youngstown State University's Williamson College of Business Administration on October 19. Organized with the Youngstown Press Club and a neutral moderator, the event offers local voters a close-up look at each candidate's plans for the state's top law enforcement office.
