Lawton Food Bank to hold tours Tuesday for Hunger Action Day (kswo.com) — Lawton residents are invited today to tour the Lawton Food Bank between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. as the city marks Hunger Action Day. With demand up by 6,000 people a month, the nonprofit is urging locals to volunteer, donate, or "adopt a family" for $50 to fund a week of groceries, and to wear orange in support.

Henry Edwin Beckman (radio7media.com) — Lawton readers may recognize the Beckman name, as Henry Edwin Beckman's son Eddie lives here while the family gathers in Tennessee to honor Henry's long life of service and community involvement. The 95-year-old Navy veteran, home builder, and church leader leaves behind a large extended family, with funeral services and visitation set this week in Loretto, Tennessee.
3. Memorial Health and Oklahoma Community College team up for new nursing program (kswo.com) — A new partnership between Memorial Health in Lawton and Oklahoma City Community College is creating a one-year pathway for LPNs, paramedics, and anesthesia techs in southwest Oklahoma to become registered nurses. Students complete coursework online and hands-on training in Lawton, with an extended application deadline of Oct. 16 aimed at boosting the region's healthcare workforce.
4. These 10 Oklahoma Towns Where Social Security Makes Affordable Living Possible (takingthekids.com) — Lawton tops a list of Oklahoma towns where Social Security can comfortably cover retirement, thanks to median rents around $700, low utilities, and easy access to groceries, healthcare, and services. With Fort Sill's steady presence, free recreation at Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, and cultural offerings from Cameron University, the city is pitched as an affordable, active place to retire.
