Breast cancer awareness event to support Black women in northeast Oklahoma City (koco.com) โ€” Black women in northeast Oklahoma City can join a free breast cancer awareness and support event Saturday at the Langston OKC campus, featuring survivors, educators, and health professionals. Organizers from Upsilon Eta Chapter of Chi Eta Phi emphasize early exams, education, and connecting women with resources and opportunities to get checked, especially given higher mortality rates among Black women.

Residents say water cutoff notice is property's fault (kfor.com) โ€” Oklahoma City tenants at Diamond Lake Apartments are facing a possible water shutoff next week, despite already paying for water as part of their rent. City Utilities confirms the complex's management hasn't paid the bill since July, leaving residents caught in the middle. Officials urge renters to pressure property management to resolve the past-due balance before the October 14 cutoff date.

Oklahoma County Clerk signed off on $1.4 million in contracts without commissioners, records show (kfor.com) โ€” Oklahoma County Clerk Maressa Treat, whose office is based in Oklahoma City, approved $1.4 million in contracts with Ernst & Young for financial work typically done in-house, without getting county commissioners' signatures on those later agreements. The initial $100,000 contract did receive full approval, but subsequent deals did not, raising questions about oversight of county spending. Treat's office says the outside help is needed to give taxpayers reliable budget numbers and a more transparent system.

Oklahoma City police chase shoplifting suspect in off-road pursuit (koco.com) โ€” Oklahoma City residents may have noticed a dramatic police chase this week after officers pursued a suspected Walmart shoplifter from Penn and Memorial onto the Kilpatrick Turnpike and Broadway Extension. Dashcam video shows the lifted pickup going off-road through fields and near warehouses before the driver fled on foot; a passenger was arrested, but the driver remained at large as of Thursday.

Former treasurer of Oklahoma City triathlon club charged with embezzling $358,000 (koco.com) โ€” A former treasurer of the Triathlon Club of OKC is accused of embezzling more than $358,000, much of it allegedly spent at an Oklahoma City-area casino. Club leaders say they reported financial irregularities to Oklahoma City police and have since tightened financial controls. The case is moving through court, with bond set at $15,000 and a hearing date still unclear.
