“The City’s sign codes are outdated and hard to understand,” said Assistant Planning Director Lisa Chronister. “Once adopted, our new codes will improve Oklahoma City’s aesthetics, reduce the number of dilapidated and abandoned signs, and accelerate the permitting process.”

The proposed sign codes were developed after receiving feedback from residents, business owners, sign industry professionals, developers, realtors, artists, City Council members, planning commissioners and City departments. Best practices from peer cities were also studied.

A stakeholder advisory team provided technical input, and preliminary information was discussed with the City’s design review committees and commissions and Historic Preservation Commission.

City Council is expected to adopt the new sign codes in 2022.
