In recognition of Stop Food Waste Day on April 29, the team at the University of Tulsa partnered with students Hannah D’Cruz and Kiersten Schaub to organize a campus-wide food drive supporting the university’s food pantry.

The initiative, created in partnership with Move For Hunger and Sodexo Stop Hunger Foundation, transformed the Hurricane Market into a collection site featuring two 30-gallon donation bins and the Good Vibes food drive van.

From April 29 through May 14, students, faculty, and staff were encouraged to contribute by bringing items from home or purchasing goods directly from the market. Participation remained steady throughout the drive, with donation bins frequently reaching capacity as contributions continued to arrive daily.

D’Cruz and Schaub helped lead outreach efforts by posting flyers across campus and encouraging fellow students to take part. On the final day of the spring semester, they also assisted with transporting donations to the campus pantry to help maintain supplies during the summer months.

More than 500 items were collected during the drive, including canned goods, peanut butter, noodles, feminine hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and other household essentials.

The effort reflected a shared commitment across campus to supporting students facing food insecurity while reducing waste through community-driven action.
