1. AI-generated flyers are everywhere. Tulsa designers push back. (tulsaflyer.org) — Tulsa creatives are pushing back against the flood of AI-generated flyers by offering a free August 29 workshop at Chimera Ballroom on how to design your own. Local designer Carl Carbonell and partners with the Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts & Culture will share practical tools, while businesses like Tulsa Food Court explain why they still lean on AI for speed and savings.
2. Tulsa on the hook for $20K to store Cry Baby Cry statue (tulsaflyer.org) — Tulsa taxpayers are now on the hook for at least $20,000 to store the delayed Cry Baby Cry statue in Florida, on top of the $250,000 cost of the artwork itself. City councilors and neighborhood leaders are questioning the ongoing expenses, the lack of a firm installation date near Cry Baby Hill, and how oversight committees share information about public art spending.
3. New East Tulsa soccer school aims to keep elite youth talent developing at home (newson6.com) — Elite soccer training is now available right in East Tulsa, with a new Hicks Park school helping top local players develop without leaving home while also emphasizing academics and character. Tecnico10, Tulsa Athletic and Tulsa Parks capped the first class at 40 athletes and hope this model of high-level training through city parks can spread to other communities.
4. Google reveals it's behind Tulsa County data center project (fox23.com) — A massive Google data center campus is rising in unincorporated Tulsa County, promising hundreds of acres of new tech infrastructure, utility upgrades and long-term economic impact just west of Owasso. Local leaders tout jobs and stronger infrastructure, while community advocates continue raising concerns about water, power use and neighborhood impacts as construction on Project Clydesdale moves forward.
5. University of Tulsa welcomes more than 600 freshmen on move-in day (newson6.com) — More than 600 freshmen just moved into University of Tulsa residence halls, with student volunteers and new president Leeds helping families unload and settle in. TU leaders say the hands-on move-in tradition reflects the university's high-touch culture and brings hundreds of new "Tulsans" into the broader community ahead of classes starting Monday.
