The University of Tulsa opened its 2026 football season with a historic win, a capacity crowd and temperatures that tested everyone inside H.A. Chapman Stadium. Through it all, the Sodexo team remained focused on service, safety and hospitality.
The Golden Hurricane defeated Oklahoma State 24–10 before 28,520 fans, securing consecutive victories over the Cowboys for the first time since the 1951 and 1952 seasons. Tulsa's defense helped shape the outcome by forcing four turnovers and holding Oklahoma State to 10 points.
The win gave the near-capacity crowd plenty to celebrate, but the September heat presented a serious challenge. The National Weather Service forecast temperatures near 101 degrees, with heat index values reaching as high as 110 degrees. Official game information recorded a temperature of 97 degrees at kickoff.
As conditions intensified, Sodexo employees quickly responded to help protect the fans and guests filling the stadium. The team distributed free water throughout the game, recognizing the need and taking immediate action while continuing to manage concessions and hospitality operations across the venue.
The response reflected Sodexo's commitment to the entire guest experience. Amid the demands of serving thousands of people during one of the university's largest events, employees remained attentive to the well-being of the TU community.
Despite the extreme temperatures and heavy attendance, the Sodexo team maintained service throughout H.A. Chapman Stadium and generated more than $200,000 in sales. The client expressed strong satisfaction with the team's performance and execution.
The successful operation was made possible through the work of David Wilcox, Jessica Lane, William Oler, Mychal Spriggs, Taylor Linden, Ramsey Kinsella, Josh Gilkey, Ronald Kimmell, Brandon Holman, Michael Kirchman, Trenton Spurgeon, Maggie Ritchie, Ben Lange-Smith, Ian Buckley, Austin Harney, Michael Dahl and Stephen Miller.
Their collective effort demonstrated the results of a strong partnership among TU Athletics, Sodexo and the full game-day team. From serving a packed stadium to responding decisively to dangerous heat, employees showed flexibility, teamwork and genuine care for their guests.
Tulsa's historic victory provided a memorable finish to an already remarkable day. For the Sodexo team, the season opener also served as a clear example of what thoughtful preparation, fast action and a shared commitment to the TU community can accomplish.
