Christian Teacher Accused Of Sexually Abusing Student In Oregon

Andrea Baber, 29, allegedly began a sexual relationship with a former student in 2016, when the boy was just 15 years old.

COTTAGE GROVE, OR — A former teacher at the Logos Christian Academy in Springfield was arrested at her home in Cottage Grove Friday for allegedly having a 2-year sexual relationship with a former student — beginning when the boy was just 15 years old.

Andrea Nicole Baber, 29, was taken to the Douglas County Jail on several sex abuse charges, including sodomy, rape, and contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, as well as unlawful delivery of marijuana to a person under 18 years of age. She was released on Monday and is due back in a Douglas County court Dec. 26.

According to a probable cause affidavit obtained by Patch, Baber began her relationship with the minor victim in 2016, when the boy was 15 and while she was his literature, writing and speech teacher at Logos Christian Academy.

Baber's alleged misconduct came to light last Tuesday, Dec. 12, when the victim's father called Douglas County 911 to report "an inappropriate sexual relationship" between his son and Baber.

The victim reportedly told his father what was going on after the father and his wife received an anonymous email asking if they were aware their son was having an affair with Baber.

The victim's father told sheriff's officials the email he received had several photos attached depicting his son and Baber in bed together, apparently topless and covered in bed sheets. The father reportedly suspected Baber's husband sent the email.

Baber's husband reportedly discovered the pair together at his home — and partially naked — Dec. 5.

Baber's husband called Child Protective Services (CPS) following his discovery, documents show, noting the victim escaped out the bedroom window at the time; he also reportedly told CPS about several cell phone photos of his naked wife that had been sent to the victim.

The victim told detectives he and Baber began flirting at Logos Christian Academy before going out to movies together in 2016. The victim said he and Baber began kissing at the movies, then escalated the nature of the relationship when school let out for summer break.

The victim reported engaging in both oral and anal sex with Baber, meeting up once or twice per week at Baber's home in the 1200-block of Territorial Highway in Cottage Grove. When they weren't together, they would reportedly send lewd pictures and messages to each other through Snapchat and/or Instagram.

The victim also reportedly told detectives he would sometimes smoke cannabis with Baber and that they'd once drank vodka together.

Around 5:45 p.m. Dec. 15, Douglas County detectives executed a search warrant at the Baber residence. The Babers reportedly were not home at the time.

While there, detectives seized as evidence several items described in detail by the victim in his testimony to Douglas County law enforcement, including sex toys and cannabis pipes.

When the Babers returned home and saw the items missing, Andrea reportedly called 911 to report a burglary. After finding the search warrant left by detectives, Baber's husband called back to withdraw their complaint.

Deputies took Andrea into custody a short time later. Since her release, Baber is not allowed contact with any minors other than her own 15-month-old child. She is also not allowed to use Snapchat or Instagram.
