63-Year-Old Woman Struck, Killed By Teen Driver: Police

Helen Grochowski was reportedly walking her bike along SW 125th Ave. in Beaverton when a high school student struck her on the road.

BEAVERTON, OR — A 63-year-old woman walking her bike along Southwest 125th Avenue near Southridge High School in Beaverton was struck by a car and killed Thursday night, according to Beaverton police spokesman Mike Rowe.

Helen Iva Grochowski of Beaverton was reportedly walking back and forth between the bike path and the roadway around 6:45 p.m. when a 17-year-old student from the International School of Beaverton struck her as she stepped onto Southwest 125th Avenue. The student had just left the school's parking lot, Rowe said.

"The driver saw her walking her bike and then she was in front of his car," Rowe said in a statement. "There was nothing he could do to avoid striking her."
