🌱Allen Blvd. Murderer Sentenced + Teen Vies For Kid Of The Year

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Hey, neighbors! It's me again, Ash DeMello, your host of the Beaverton Daily.

First, today's weather:

Fog in the a.m.; mostly sunny. High: 54 Low: 38.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Wednesday night was an important night for one local student. Beaverton's Jenell Theobald, 15, was named a finalist for TIME's Top Kid of the Year for her advocacy work for those with mental and physical disabilities. The awards ceremony, hosted by Trevor Noah, was held Wednesday evening on Nickelodeon. (TIME)
  2. A 2018 Beaverton murder resulted in a life sentence for Norbeto Nestor Muniz, Jr. Judge Andrew Erwin sentenced Muniz on February 8 in a Washington County Court. (Beaverton Patch)
  3. A Beaverton business is approaching the end of the state mask mandate with mixed emotions. Lisa Alleyne of Ickabods Bar & Grill downtown says that her first reaction was "hallelujah." Then she thought of people in higher-risk categories, such as her 86-year-old mother. Alleyne plans to discuss the restaurant's plan with her employees before deciding how her business will respond. (KPTV.com)
  4. A local nonprofit is helping folks keep their neighborhoods clean. Adopt One Block started in 2018, and since then, thousands of volunteers have joined in to pick up litter and keep things looking tidy on their home turfs. Joe Vithayathil reports on a Beaverton mother-daughter team who recently joined the program and are enjoying the process. Learn their experience at KPTV.com.
  5. Get the story behind the construction near Highway 217 and Scholls Ferry Road via Construction Equipment Guide. A new pipeline is going in that area as part of the Willamette Water Supply Program. The ambitious project provides an additional water supply source for Hillsboro and Beaverton and creates infrastructure that will be able to withstand a major earthquake. The project is scheduled for completion in 2026.
