Aloha Apartment Fire + Neighbor Poisons Dogs + Native Plant Sale

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things going on around town today.

(Patch Media)

Happy Tuesday, Beaverton! Let's get you all caught up on what's happening locally to start today off on an informed note.

First, today's weather: Clear throughout the day. High: 90 Low: 68.

Here are the top stories in Beaverton today:

  1. One person was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries sustained in an Aloha apartment fire early Sunday morning. Firefighters quickly extinguished flames coming from a first-floor unit in the Masters Apartments. TVF&D is investigating the cause. (KPTV)
  2. If there were an award for the nastiest neighbor in town, it might go to Erik Mighells of Bethany. He's accused of intentionally tossing rat poison-laced hamburger meat to his neighbors' two dogs. Deputies arrested Mighells, and he's currently being held in the county jail. The affected dogs were treated for poisoning and are being watched carefully for symptoms. (KOIN)
  3. Looking to upgrade your yard in a sustainable way? THPRD is holding a virtual native plant sale. Pre-ordering starts August 15. (The Cedar Mill News)
  4. It's been great to have the Vancouver Canadians make Ron Tonkin Stadium their pandemic home, but it's been keeping stadium groundskeepers extra busy. Nick Krupke reports the extra team has had stadium staff working overtime for nearly a year. Don't worry too much, though— one groundskeeper says he can't imagine any job he would enjoy more than keeping the field looking beautiful. (KPTV)
  5. Despite leading Oregon in vaccination rates, Washington County officials now require masks in county facilities. The move comes as COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations tick upward in the region. (Pamplin Media Group)
