Apartment Fire Displaces 23 People, TVF&R Officials Say

The two-alarm fire, which began around 10 a.m., has rendered 20 adults and three children temporarily homeless, officials said.

BEAVERTON, OR — Multiple agencies converged at the Commons at Timber Creek Apartments on Wednesday to battle a two-alarm fire that ultimately displaced 23 people, according to Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue officials.

Shortly after 10:15 a.m. May 31, officials said, multiple 911 callers reported the second-floor blaze at 12450 N.W. Barnes Rd., which quickly turned into a two-level fire on the decks of two apartments on the second and third floor. It took nearly an hour for firefighters to tame the blaze, officials said, adding that another hour was spent "mopping up hot spots."

One man was taken to hospital for injuries sustained when he jumped from his third-floor apartment to escape the fire, officials said. Another resident, a woman who lived in the apartment where the fire began, was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but the extent of the damage has rendered half the 20-unit complex uninhabitable. Twenty-three people, 20 adults and three children, are being helped by the American Red Cross and apartment managers in finding new homes.

Altogether, six agencies assisted with the containing the fire and tending to the injured residents.
