BEAVERTON, Ore. – City of Beaverton buildings will stay closed to the public for at least several more weeks in response to COVID-19. While the spread of the virus has slowed, there are specific criteria and safeguards that must be met before current restrictions can be eased without causing a major spike in the rate of infections.
City Hall, the Griffith Drive building, both library locations and other public buildings are closed for in-person visits and business, and are now expected to remain closed through Monday, May 25.
“The health and safety of the community remains our top priority,” said Mayor Denny Doyle. “I’m proud of Beaverton’s COVID-19 response and we are committed to doing more. Now is a time to continue to act responsibly and in the best interest of our residents and staff.”
City services remain available by phone or online. Police services and city maintenance continue in our neighborhoods, construction permits and inspections are ongoing, library programming and court hearings occur remotely, and meetings are happening virtually.
Beaverton’s Severe Weather Shelter remains open and has extended operations to every day and night of the week through the end of May for adults experiencing homelessness. This is a managed program and part of a countywide response.
Buildings are expected to open Tuesday, May 26, but will be extended further as needed. A framework for reopening will be developed in accordance with federal and state guidance and timelines.
The city’s upcoming community event season is being evaluated. At this time, all public events planned for April and May are cancelled, including Bike Beaverton originally scheduled for Sunday, May 31.
Neighborhood Association Committee meetings and the city’s volunteer boards and commissions are expected to begin meeting remotely soon.
