Beaverton Couple Return From Dominican Nightmare

In an exclusive interview with KATU, they discuss their six month ordeal.

"I feel incredibly lucky to live in the United States of America."

That's what John Elkman told KATU of the six months he and his girlfriend, Lori Breeden spent trapped in the Dominican Republic.

They had been there about a week when they were crashed into a motorcycle. It's driver, witnesses said, had already died after being hit by a truck.

But police arrested Elkman.

"One delay after the other," Ekman told KATU, "and 10 days always turned into 20 and a week turns into a month."

Which turned into six months.

They finally returned Thursday.
