Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:
- A Beaverton couple is fighting for their son after his diagnosis with an 'ultra-rare' genetic disorder. Tim Gordon shares the story of 2-year-old Raiden Pham, who has a progressive neurological disorder with no known cure. Raiden's family is seeking to raise $3 million to fund research for a cure. (KGW.com)
- A woman is out of the hospital after being stabbed by a stranger at her Beaverton apartment two weeks ago. She says she thought she was going to die when a man pushed through a crack in her front door hitting her and attacking her with a seven inch knife. She was in the hospital for two weeks with a punctured lung, a broken rib and surgery on her arm for severed nerves. (KPTV)
- More than 40 pounds of methamphetamines, nearly 60 pounds of heroin and 115,000 counterfeit oxycodone pills are off the streets, thanks to a DEA bust of twelve people associated with a drug trafficking network. Police say the group also laundered money through a Tualatin beauty salon called Mazatlan Beauty Salon. In addition police say the group owns nine properties worth $4.6 million, including two properties in Beaverton. (KATU)
- Police are talking with a "driver of interest" in regards to Tuesday's fatal hit and run on southwest Farmington Road. The driver has not been identified to the public and is said to be cooperating. An elderly woman was hit as she attempted to cross Hall Boulevard at a crosswalk. The driver left the scene without rendering aid. The woman subsequently died. (KOIN)

- Woodworkers take note. There will be a class called Introduction to Turning that will cover tools and basic cuts from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The class will be held at Rockler Woodworking and Hardware, 11773 SW Beaverton Hillsdale Highway in Beaverton. The fee is $90 and the online registration is closed. You can contact organizers@rockler.com or call the store (503-672-7266).
- In the mood for a little music? Carpenter Creek Farm and Winery in Forest Grove presents the Nervous Jenny Acoustic Duo for an afternoon of music, wine and relaxing. The event begins at 1 p.m. The farm/winery is located at 47266 Carpenter Creek Road. Children and dogs are welcome.
- Watch the movie "Nomadland" at the Hillsboro Brookwood Library from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 2850 NE Brookwood Parkway. The film will have English audio and closed captioning for people who have difficulty hearing. There will be a guided discussion of the film's themes afterwards.
From my notebook:
- Since 1976 the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District has owned the Jenkins Estate, a 68 acre site with gardens, trails and a main house built to resemble a royal family hunting lodge. The estate is open every day from dawn to dusk. The Master Gardeners maintain a learning garden at the site and offer frequent demonstrations and workshops.
- If there's something you've been dying to let Beaverton civic leaders know, now is the time. The City of Beaverton is asking for your opinion. You can record your views at www.BeavertonOregon.gov/vision through the end of May. The Visioning Advisory Committee is a group of volunteers who are attempting to maximize citizen input in city decision making.
- The Hillsboro Aquatic Center, 953 SE Maple Street, is open for business. They still have some restrictions in place but they say they are excited to be open. They will be open every day of Spring Break beginning at 1 p.m. for recreational swimming. For more information contact them at 503-681-6127.
