Here are the top stories today in Beaverton:

  1. Neighbors are being neighborly in some spots in our area these days, as demonstrated by the Beaverton Food Project. Inspired by the Portland Free Fridge, Beaverton resident Inca Gutner established a mutual aid network that provides free food via 10 area refrigerators/pantries to whoever needs it. Check out the org's website to find out locations! (Pamplin Media Group)
  2. Head over to KOIN to read the business community's response to the conversion of an Econo Lodge on 10th Avenue in Hillsboro. Last month, business owners from the area around the former motel and city representatives met with county officials in Shute Park to clear the air. Complaints included employees' safety concerns, property damage and the impression that the county was targeting the historically Latinx neighborhood. Washington County officials stated that they're committed to working more openly with the community in the future. (KOIN)
  3. Most schools start this week, and that means schedules are changing for many folks around town. Patch offers a roundup of events happening in the Beaverton area to help you get your week organized and filled to the brim with interesting items. Choose from watercolor classes, family storytimes and more! (Patch)
  4. ...And while you're over at the Patch site, why not take a look at the prep sports schedules. Whether you're a parent, a student-athlete or a sports enthusiast looking to take in a game, there are lots of options. This week has multiple varsity football games to choose from, including Beaverton High School v. Aloha and Westview v. Mountainside. (Patch)
  5. If you ride TriMet regularly, it might be a good idea to check out the agency's latest route updates. Westside changes include combining Line 93-Tigard/Sherwood and Line 94-Pacific Hwy/Sherwood into a single line, called Line 94. People who use the current line 94 will gain weekend and holiday service with this modification. Trimet reps said the adjustments were made to more accurately match ridership and traffic conditions.
