🌱Beaverton HS Presents 'Ranked, A Musical' + New Bike Bridge To Open

The quickest way to get caught up on the most important things happening today in Beaverton.

(Patch Media)

Good morning, friends! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Beaverton Daily, fresh off the presses. Here's all the community news you need to know right now.

First, today's weather:

Rain and drizzle; not as warm. High: 70 Low: 55.

Here are the top five stories today in Beaverton:

  1. A 12-year-old who went missing while reportedly driving a 2018 Kia Soul has been located, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. The office reported that the child's parents last saw him near his residence in the Cedar Mill area around 1 p.m. on June 1. By 7 p.m., the agency had located him, thanking the community for their support in the search. (Flash Alert Newswire)
  2. The city of Beaverton will soon offer a resource guide for businesses concerned about homeless people in their area, Sally Segar reports. The document, which will soon be available on the city's and the Beaverton Chamber of Commerce's websites, will offer tips and resources. City Manager Jen Haruyama said the guide was created in recognition that "more support was needed for businesses in the community." (Beaverton Valley Times, subscription)
  3. The Beaverton School District is set to lose over a hundred employees after the end of this school year. BSD officials said they expect 181 employees to retire in June 2022, which is a 62% increase over the two previous years. Similar exoduses are happening throughout the region. (KATU.com)
  4. Cyclists and hikers alike can look forward to testing out a new amenity: Southwest Portland's Red Electric Bridge. With this newest addition (finished, but not officially open), the Red Electric Trail now connects the neighborhood near Southwest Bertha Boulevard and Beaverton-Hillsdale Highway to the Hillsdale businesses on Southwest Capitol Highway. The bridge is the latest achievement in the SW Trails community organization's efforts to create a family-friendly multi-use path that follows the historic railroad route between Beaverton and the South Waterfront. (BikePortland)
  5. This year's very wet spring has created challenges for growers. The Beaverton Farmers Market newsletter shares some of the resourceful solutions from local farmers. For instance, Michael Hagar from Le Petit Jardin grows microgreens indoors, where rain isn't an issue. And YoTee Telio of Salmon Creek Farms has long grown indoors, relying on the hydroponic method to bring tomatoes, cucumbers and shallots to the Market.

Are you a Beaverton resident looking for an investment alternative to the stock market?

Bloomberg recently asked experts where they'd invest $100,000 right now, and many of them had the same answer: fine art.

Thinking you can't afford a Picasso? Well in 2012, Congress passed the JOBS Act, which allowed for the securitization of artwork. A company called Masterworks.io built the largest platform for buying and selling art securities. In the past, you could only buy shares of companies like Apple, but with this investing app, you can unlock this powerful investment.

Meaning, you can invest in shares of million-dollar artwork. And in uncertain times, it turns out, fine art may be a wise investment. Here's why:

  • Low correlation to stocks according to Citi
  • Contemporary art historically returns 23.2% when inflation is >3%
  • Contemporary art prices outpaced the S&P 500 by 164% (1995-2021)
