Beaverton Kids Honored for Creative Expression
Contest was sponsored by the city; kids will be honored at a City Council meeting in May,

Beaverton kids from elementary school to high school were asked to share their feelings and ideas about the importance of human and civil rights in a creative way.
They could choose poetry, art, an essay, photos.
And dozens entered.

On Wednesday, the city announced the winners: three from elementary school, one from middle school, and three from high school.
They are:

Elementary School
- First place: “These Truths are Self-Evident,” Jaeho Lee, Findley, fourth grade
- Runner up: “Blood Diamonds,” Satvik K. Kumar, Findley, fourth grade
- Runner up: “I May Not Look Like You,” Isabelle Riley, Raleigh Park, first grade
Middle School
- First place: “Discrimination is Still Here,” Medini Madhusudan, Stoller, sixth grade
High School
- First place: “Beautiful Lives,” Grace Tran, Westview, ninth grade
- Runner up: “We are All Humans, Right?”, Allison Payne, Westview, twelfth grade
- Runner up: “We Shall Overcome,” Angelina Chavez, Beaverton, tenth grade
The works will be on display at various city events during the year and will be posted on the city's website.
The winners will be honored at the City Council meeting on May 10.
