Beaverton Library to Forgive Fines for Food Donations

The annual Food for Fines program runs April 8 to April 16. Up to $20 in fines can be wiped for food donations.

BEAVERTON, OR – Donate food and have your library fees forgiven?

That’s the message the Beaverton City Library is sending for its annual Food for Fines program during National Library Week, beginning Saturday, April 8, and running through Sunday, April 16.

Inclined library members are encouraged to visit either Beaverton library location (the Main library at 12375 S.W. Fifth St. or the Murray Scholls library at 11200 S.W. Murray Scholls Place) to have $2 in fines forgiven for every food item donated, up to a maximum of $20 in fines.

According to library officials, annual donations have averaged two tons of food for the Oregon Food Bank.

Donated items can include but are not limited to: boxed meals, canned fruits and vegetables, soup, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, rice, pasta and pasta sauce, beans, tuna, condiments, and toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, toilet paper and toothpaste.

Additionally, officials said, members who bring in long overdue items may also see fines forgiven.
