BEAVERTON, OR – A local theater company will honor famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo next month with a production based on her life, according to city officials.

Portland-based Milagro Theatre will perform "Mijita Fridita" Sunday, May 7, at the Beaverton City Library, 12375 S.W. Fifth St. The free production, which will be performed in both English and Spanish, is suitable for all ages.

"We are so pleased to be able to host Teatro Milagro's 'Mijita Fridita' at the Beaverton City Library," Beaverton librarian Christina Hanson told Patch in an email. "Teatro Milagro has been an innovative part of the local theater scene for over three decades, and their bilingual productions are joyous and heartfelt. 'Mijita Fridita' promises to introduce young and old alike to the early life of Frida Kahlo and her achievements, and inspire our diverse, multilingual Beaverton community."

Back in the real world, Fridita's peers taunt her for being different, but her father, Guillermo, encourages her and awakens her interest in art with his love of photography.
