Beaverton Man Killed in Crash on Highway 97

The Oregon State Police says that speed may have been a factor

A man from Beaverton was killed when the 1969 Pontiac GTO crashed into a Ford Pickup along Highway 97 Monday afternoon, according to the Oregon State Police.

It happened around 5:30 near milepost 31, just south of Grass Valley in Sherman County.

The GTO was headed south when its driver, 57-year-old James Robinson of Beaverton, lost control, and turned sideways. The Ford pickup, which was behind the GTO, smashed into it, hitting the GTO's driver-side door.

The Ford, which as driven by 37-year-old Richard Damon of White City, was pulling a horse trailer with two horses. Neither horse was injured. Damon and his three passengers were also uninjured.

The investigation continues. State Police think speed may have been a factor.
