Beaverton National Night Out Against Crime is Tuesday

Annual event encourages people to get outside and take back the streets.

Build awareness of anti crime and drug prevention programs.

Build police community relations.

Those are just a few of the goals of the Annual National Night Out Against Crime happening Tuesday August 2nd.

There will be block parties and cookouts, visits from police officers and firefighters, flashlight walks and youth programs.

"National Night Out is a great tradition that brings neighborhoods and public safety agencies together," says Washington County Sheriff Pat Garrett.

"Hearing from our residents helps us so we can best respond, provide education and continue to serve our communities with excellent service."

The Washington County Sheriff's Office will be at various neighborhood events including:

* Banks National Night Out: 6-8:30 PM at Sunset Park/Speedway 12765 NW Main St. Banks

* Cornelius National Night Out: 5:30-8 PM at Harleman Park 875 S. Heather St. Cornelius

* Metzger National Out: 6-8 PM at Metzger Park 8400 SW Hemlock St. Portland

The event has happened in cities on the first Tuesday of August every year since 1983.
