Man Told Police He Accidentally Shot Himself Before Shooting Others

Roshawn Travers is charged with murder and assault.

Roshawn Travers told officers that he was was walking by The Courts in Beaverton Saturday night when a car drove by and almost hit him.

Words were exchanged and he saw the driver reaching for the glove compartment.

He said he reached into his pants and pulled out a gun, accidentally shooting himself in the leg and thigh.

He kept shooting, firing several rounds into the car, striking Andres Castorena, who died at the scene.

He also struck the driver, Fernando Chaires, who is expected to survive.

The incident happened around 9:00 p.m by The Courts - a large sports facility with basketball and volleyball courts - in Beaverton.

Travers and Chaires were brought to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center. After Travers was treated, he was transferred to the Washington County Jail where he was booked.
