Beaverton Police Identify Man Killed By Officers
The man on the roof waving a gun has been identified as 51-year-old Douglas Michael Smith.

Beaverton Police shot and killed a man who was standing on the roof of a building pointing a gun at people, they said Monday. The man was acting erratically, they said.
He has been identified as 51-year-old Douglas Michael Smith.
Officers arrived at the home at 2030 SW 170th Avenue just after 7:30 Monday morning. Police say that Smith was "acting aggressive" and pointing the gun at people on the street and threatening people in the home.

The home is across the street from Beaver Acres Elementary School and near Merlo Station High School. Both schools were notified of the incident and Beaver Acres was placed on lockdown.

Officers tried to talk with Smith but he continued to point the gun at officers, police said. At one point he fired a shot from his handgun into the home.
At that point, he was shot and died from his injuries. No one else was injured.
Officers then entered the home to provide medical care. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two officers who fired at Smith have been placed on administrative leave. The incident being investigated by the Washington County Major Crimes team.
