Police say that the man calls people, claims to be investigating a case where the person is a suspect in a crime, and says that if the person doesn't "settle up," with the victim, they will be arrested.

"We want to remind you the police will never call you and ask for a financial settlement instead of being arrested," says a spokesman for the department, Officer Mike Rowe.

"If you receive a call from someone claiming to be a Beaverton Police Officer and he/she demands you pay money to avoid arrest, hang up."

According to Rowe, the numbers associated with the scam are:

971-225-2666

971-259-3100

971-205-2953

Rowe says that if you get a voice mail from someone claiming to be a Beaverton Police Officer, requesting a call back, please return the phone call since it might really be from an officer.

But if you return the call and they demand you pay money to clear up an incident or be arrested, hang up.

"Please share this information with friends and family and let's all make sure this scam doesn't snare another victim," said Rowe
