Beaverton Police Warn of Telephone Scam

Calls are from a New York number and purport to be from the US Treasury Department of Consumer Affairs. They are not.

Beaverton residents are being warned about phone calls from someone purporting to be from something called the "US Treasury Department of Consumer Affairs."

The call came from 347-418-0597.

People are then told they have been indicted and can take of it with a payment at that moment.

First - there is no such thing as the "US Treasury Department of Consumer Affairs."

Second - You have not been indicted by them.

Third - police it's a scam and don't give them any money.

One of their attempted victim was Mike Rowe of the Beaverton Police Department.

"It is clear that the calls are not going to NY but overseas so there is little to no way we can track it," he said.

Rowe tried to keep the caller on the line but he got hung up on.

"The caller apparently figured out that I was not a mark and hung up on me," he said.
