Beaverton Schools Hires New Superintendent

Dan Grotting succeeds Jeff Rose who is moving to Georgia.

The Beaverton School District has a new superintendent.

The school board approved Dan Grotting to over effective July 1st,

Grotting has spent the past six years as the superintendent of the David Douglas School District in Portland. In 2014, he was named Oregon Superintendent of the Year by the American Association of School Administrators.

The district says that Grotting's experience - his six years at David Douglas capped 20 years as a superintendent in Oregon - was a major factor in hiring him and his starting salary of nearly $300,000.

“As a superintendent, he has an exceptional track record in providing student-focused learning, increasing achievement for students of all backgrounds, and carefully managing District resources," said Beaverton School Board Chair Anne Bryan.

Grotting says that he hopes to have a positive impact in Beaverton.

"I am committed to transparency and building trust," he says. "I look forward to working with the Beaverton community to make a positive difference in the lives of children in the Beaverton School District."

Grotting, who succeeds Jeff Rose who is moving to Georgia to take over a district there, is an Oregon native.

He grew up in Coquille and joined the Army after high school.

When he left the Army, he went to work at the Georgia Pacific sawmill before returning to school, earning degrees at Linfield College and Portland State. He received his superintendent's license in 2001 from Lewis and Clark.
