Beaverton Students Lead Oregon in Getting National Merit Scholarships

Nearly two dozen high students from Clackamas, Multnomah, and Washington Counties have been awarded $2,500 National Merit Scholarships.

The 22 students attend 15 different schools and are among the 28 students statewide who earned the honor. Students come from cities across the state including Portland, Beaverton and Tigard.

Westview High School led the way with five winners.

The number of winners in Oregon - as in each state - is proportional to the state’s percentage of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

According to the foundation that awards the grants, the students are those “judged to have the strongest combination of accomplishments, skills, and potential for success in rigorous college studies.”

Recipients are chosen by a committee of college admission officers and high school counselors.

Here is the list of winners from Multnomah, Washington, and Clackamas Counties. After their name is the high school they attend, their home city, and what field - if any - that they feel will pursue.
